Identity all over India can only be evidenced using the Aadhaar card. Aadhaar is a 12 digit unique number. It is solid proof of the Aadhaar cardholder that his or her information is accurate and legitimate. UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) is the body that controls and operates the entire system of enrollment. For this, Aadhar enrollment centers work under the guidance and SOPs of the UIDAI to enroll people according to the Aadhaar Act. Within a decade, a large population of the country has been enrolled in the UIDAI database. In order to qualify as an Aadhaar applicant, one has to be in India for a minimum of 182 days in a year. We would like to make it clear that Aadhaar is not for NRI (Non-Resident Indian).
Anyone can apply for the Aadhaar card simply by visiting the nearest Aadhar enrollment office. Please keep in mind that you must carry the required documents otherwise your application will be rejected. It will take around three months from the date of application to get your Aadhaar card at your given address. The enrollment is free of cost as the Government wants to enroll as many people as possible to make its population statistics up to date. At the time of Aadhar enrollment, the data entry officer at the center will capture your biometric and demographic details. Demographic information is the name, DoB (date of birth), and address of the applicant while biometric information is the thumb, fingers, and eye scan.
As the UIDAI setup is quite complex and big, issues arise on a daily basis. The proper and timely resolution helps people to get the Aadhaar within 90 days or even earlier. Issues may be major or minor. Minor issues can easily be solved either via UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) the official web portal or by visiting your nearest Aadhaar. However, major problems require frequent visits to Aadhaar Kendra and still, applicants are not able to solve discrepancies. In order to sort out the problems,
UIDAI has opened up an Aadhaar helpline for a week. As India is a country with diverse cultures and languages, it needs to facilitate people in their own local languages.
